Guess the Market is operated from Denmark. The data controller responsible for your personal data is Guess the Market. For privacy-related enquiries, please use the in-app feedback form.

2. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data under the following legal bases (GDPR Article 6):

• Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the game experience you signed up for (account management, scoring, leaderboards).
• Consent: Where you have given explicit consent, such as for the use of your predictions in aggregate research and analytical purposes, including financial analysis. This consent is optional and is not a condition of creating an account or using the App. You may withdraw it at any time via your profile settings.
• Legitimate interest: Error monitoring (Sentry), application security, and fraud prevention, where our interests do not override your rights.

3. Information We Collect

When you use Guess the Market, we collect:

• Account information: Email address, username, and profile photo (if uploaded). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.
• Profile content: Any bio text you add to your profile
• Usage data: Predictions made, scores, streaks, streak awards, tier status, win/loss/push rates, Brier score decomposition, and game activity timestamps
• Comments: Any content you post in live prediction discussion areas, including vote context
• Feedback: Messages and ratings submitted through the feedback form, along with the page you submitted from

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and operate the game experience
• Calculate scores, rankings, tiers, and leaderboards
• Display your profile to other users (username, avatar, tier, bio, prediction statistics, streak awards, and performance metrics)
• Feature top-performing players on the public landing page
• Enable community features like live prediction discussions
• Compute aggregate benchmarks from collective player predictions
• Improve the App based on aggregate usage patterns and feedback

5. Publicly Visible Information

The following information is visible to other users of the App:

• Username, profile photo, bio, and tier
• Foresight scores, prediction counts, win/push/loss rates, and Brier score decomposition
• Rank on the leaderboard, streak records, and streak awards
• Comments posted in live prediction discussions

Top-performing players (username, avatar, and tier) may also be displayed on the public landing page, which is accessible without logging in.

6. Data Storage & Retention

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase services (Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Storage). Data is processed and stored in accordance with Google Cloud's security standards.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed and your contributions to live predictions and discussions are anonymized. We do not automatically delete inactive accounts, but reserve the right to do so after extended periods of inactivity with prior notice.

7. Data Sharing & Research Use

We do not sell your personal information. Designated App administrators have access to aggregated feedback data, prediction statistics, and the ability to moderate user-generated content.

If you have given consent, we may use your predictions in anonymized, aggregate form for research and analytical purposes, which may include financial analysis and investment-related research. Individual predictions are never shared in a way that identifies you personally. You may withdraw this consent at any time via your profile settings without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

Participation in this research use is optional and is not required to create an account or use the App. Should we in future wish to publicly feature you as an individually identified top forecaster beyond the leaderboards and landing-page listings described in Section 5 (for example, in marketing or promotional materials), we will request your separate, specific consent before doing so.

8. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Firebase Authentication: For account management and sign-in (including Google Sign-In)
• Cloud Firestore: For data storage
• Firebase Cloud Storage: For profile image uploads
• Yahoo Finance: For stock market data (no personal data is shared)
• Sentry: For error monitoring and application stability. When errors occur, diagnostic data including anonymized user identifiers may be transmitted to help us identify and fix issues

9. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Rectification: Update or correct your personal information via your profile
• Erasure: Delete your account and all associated personal data. Upon deletion, your live prediction votes are anonymized and your comments are replaced with a removal notice
• Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable JSON format
• Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent (e.g., research use of predictions), you may withdraw consent at any time via your profile settings. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal
• Lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) at datatilsynet.dk

Account deletion, data export, and consent management features are available directly within the App via your profile settings. You may also contact us via the feedback form to exercise these rights.

10. Cookies & Local Storage

The App uses browser local storage and session storage for authentication tokens and user preferences. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

11. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the App. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.
